Choosing the right WordPress theme can make a huge difference in the success of your marketing. Many people just pick a theme that they think looks good, and think that the only difference between the themes is the “feel” of the theme and the way it looks. However, there should be a lot more thought put into choosing a Wordpress theme for your blog.
For one thing, you should be choosing a WordPress blog that is search engine friendly. This means that just picking a random WordPress theme may not be easy for the search engines to spider and may actually HURT YOUR RANKINGS! If the search engines have trouble indexing your site, and find the site confusing, then you will not rank well in the search engines.
These themes are generally not all that easy to find. I have seen some companies charge $200 or MORE for these optimized themes that allow you rank better in the search engines without doing as much work. I have seen people charge less for these types of themes, but they are often not even created by people who know anything about SEO, or who have gained their false SEO knowledge from forums (Err..I’m not pointing out any forum name
).
However, no one wants to spend lots of money on WordPress themes so they can rank well in the search engines. I mean, the whole point of free traffic is that you don’t want to pay for traffic, and paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars to get the rankings is worse than paying for traffic through PPC or banner advertising.
Besides looking for blogs that are search engine friendly, you also want blogs that are easy for people to navigate and are easily readable. I have seen some blogs where the colors were just so insane that it gave me an almost instant headache trying to read them. These blogs are TERRIBLE, no matter how well they rank. If you get 5,000 unique visitors a day but they can’t even read your content, then you are going to lose all 5,000 of those visitors and you will have completely wasted your time.
If you have trouble reading your blog, then don’t use that theme. If you are not sure whether or not it will be difficult for other people to read, then you need to scrap that theme and find a new one. Don’t just hope it will be ok. If you do, you will be losing potential buyers, just because you were too lazy to find a good theme or because you were too attached to a certain theme to let it go. Make sure that whatever theme you pick is easy to read and easy to navigate, so people can easily find their way around your blog.
So the two things you need to remember when choosing a WordPress theme, is that it should be search engine friendly and they should be easy to read and navigate. Now there is one last thing that I have not seen many people discuss, but something that I think is incredibly important when determining which WordPress theme you should be using for your market.
This last thing that you need to remember is to pick a theme that fits with your target market. When you pick a market, you should know as much about your target market as possible and pick a theme that works well with them.
For instance, if you are targeting seniors, then you are going to want a theme that has larger font so that it is easy to read and you are going to want a fairly basic theme without a lot of colors and graphics. You obviously want to make it really easy to read the blog because your target audience is most likely losing their eyesight and will have trouble reading your blog unless you specifically pick a theme that is REALLY easy to read.
If you are in the romance niche, then you are going to want to use a red or pink theme, most likely with hearts on it, maybe even silhouettes of people kissing in the background, maybe even with cupid on it. You are not going to want to choose a black theme when you are discussing romance, because it is more depressing and it really just doesn’t fit with the mood.
I am sure you get the idea. You need to pick a theme that really just fits well with your target audience, and will make it more comfortable for them so that your conversions will be higher and people will keep coming back to you. You know your target market (if you don’t, then go do your research right now and figure out who you’re targeting or you won’t make any money), so pick a theme that will convert with them.
So the three things you need to remember when picking a Wordpress theme is to pick a Wordpress theme that is search engine optimized and search engine friendly, is easy for the user to read and to navigate, and a theme that fits well with your target audience. If you remember these three things when you choose a Wordpress theme you will be much more successful in your marketing efforts.
You can also apply these strategies to a normal website as well, as these strategies help a regular website as well, only you are generally creating your own graphics, rather than choosing a theme.
These are not difficult strategies to implement, but it will take a little bit of searching to find the right WordPress them for the niche that you enter. However, the effort put into finding the right theme is easily worth the amount of money you will make if you do the proper research and spend the time looking for a good theme to use.
*BONUS TIP* If you are not sure what color is a good color for your target market, it has been found that blue converts well, and is easier on the eyes than other colors. If you are unsure, go with a blue theme.
