There are a few factors to consider when doing search engine optimization on the big G. Most search engine’s algorithm varies from one another and on Google – here are a few important things to understand for us to rank high:

• SearchBacklinks
• Content
• Age
• How it fares in the results

Backlinks are the primary key on Google in order to rank high in the search engines and SE results page. Before, ranking high in the search engines was just like a game of numbers. The more links you have spreaded than others then the higher you can be in the search engines. But now search engines have been updating and Google mainly has an algorithm for determining the weight and value of the links from others. However, for determining these weight and value of a backlink that you have – you may want to first consider these things:

editPage Rank – It’s really obvious that a Page Rank of 4 is worth better than a value of PR 2. But from my personal experience, I couldn’t say that a high page rank you have means you are better in the SERPS. Sometimes a PR0 ranks higher than with a PR2 from a competitive keyword. -It always happens to me.

Anchor Text - The link text used is always an important factor to consider. If you were targeting a keyword let’s say “leopard gecko care” then the format should be like leopard gecko care and by using these keywords in the anchor text makes relevance between your site with those key terms.

Age of the Links – It is just like the domain name that gains weight with age. It is pretty simple, the longer your links have been on the web means the higher their value. The weight of your links age gradually, it means that the efforts of your link building won’t pay off within these days or within these weeks. It would take a month for your link to take a partial weight, two then three and so on.

Relevancy – Getting a link from a health site, institution, government and school like a domain extension of “.edu” makes an instant boost in the rankings and weight of your site because Google thinks your website is a good source of information.

Content

It’s always “Content is the King” and everybody knows it yet still relevant. When you have a lot of content on your site means it is more likely for someone to find what they are looking for when they arrive at your site. More content means more chances to appear on Google Search. However this doesn’t mean that you should build a thousand pages about Donuts and make every bit of contents about it. It should always relevant and well written.

Age

Like was said earlier, Age has been a big factor on Google as since the big G has become a domain name registrar and has access to the whois data, where and when was it registered, hosting and other files. A domain name that has been on the web for a very long time means Google will more likely to rank it high in the results page. The older the domain additionally, means the more legitimate and tends to make a high rankings in the search engines.

How it Fares in the Results

How a website fares in the results is yet another big important factor to consider when getting searches on Google. A website or blog that appears in the results for a keyword or phrase yet no one clicks on your website will tend to drop out from that results page and rankings. Inversely to this, if your website is clicked but after a few seconds the searcher makes a return to the results page to find a new website then your site will go dropped down as well. It is important to make sure that the titles and content is relevant to each other, search engine and human friendly.

You may want to insure that what people see when they first hit or land on your page must be the information that they are looking for and makes a clear reference. Search Engine Optimization or simply called SEO is all about manipulating the pages of your website to be easily accessible not only by Google but also all the major search engines. As webmasters it is just about 3 seconds to get a visitor’s attention so make sure that the visitor can find what they want in that time.
