SEO Myths

1. We Get Google Page Rank if we have original content!

Alright, this one could either be true or false. Adding new and original content in our web pages/blog as time goes by gets some value and the internal backlinks gets you what we call the “link juice” and eventually will get some PageRank. However from my personal experience, PageRank does not really matter at all. I have  PR 0 pages in my blog that rank high from SERPs. PR rank could be good if you are selling a domain or flipping a website. But in terms of SEO, PR value does vary at all.

2. NoFollow links could be useless

Hmm.. again, this could either be true or false especially in use of SEO. For me, nofollow links are not that useless but the value for me is much less than do-follow links. However, you can get traffic to your anchor linked texts if that page has a high traffic.

3. OMG! I think I’m sandboxed by Google!

If your site is not yet in the Google index even after some time, it’s not that kinda sandboxed at all. It’s just that Google might have not visited that site and page yet, OR — it’s because Google does not index every page it visits. It may take some time. The term “sandbox effect” is a no official term. It is just made to strain NEW websites to rank high in their keywords.

4. Oh Noooo! I’m Blacklisted – I’m DEAD :(

It’s not true that you can’t recover if your website is blacklisted by Google or any other search engines. You can ask to review your site again through the webmaster tools. Just make sure you will fix the issues like virus, etc. of that site before submitting again.

5. Social Bookmarking can get you a PR

Even though the Social Bookmarking site you use has a “nofollow” attribute but has a high value in Google’s eyes. You will eventually get indexed more faster and get PR at the same time.

6. Main Domain has a nice PR then inner page will be nice too

If your main domain has a nice rank and pr in Google. Your inner pages will also have a higher chances of getting a nice rank and pr in Google too. Though this isn’t 100% true. Just based on my experience.

7. Google doesn’t know all my backlinks when I’m searching for “link:yoursite.com”

I think this is completely false. It’s just that Google shows only the links which has a high value that you got from the link juice. Anyhow, I prefer to use the Yahoo!’s Site Explorer because it is more precise than using the Google’s Webmaster Tools.

8. Domain Age does not really matter at all!

Like if that domain is about 4 years old but was just indexed yesterday then it will be treated just like a new website. Though I’ve seen some new websites that are ranking high in the SERPs regardless of age.

Note: All of the things above are just based on my personal experience and I don’t guarantee that all of them are 100% true. More like it was theoretically based. So don’t fight me, Ok? :)
